Practical Session 2 Update - Malta

We appreciate how much the cancellation of our exams has affected learners and we are working hard on solutions to ensure learners can gain their qualifications at the earliest opportunity.

Unfortunately government restrictions have not lifted in time for us to open the postponed booking period. Therefore we will be cancelling Session 2 Practical exams scheduled for October-December. Our Representative will provide further guidance in due course. We are very sorry for the impact on teachers and candidates and we will continue to monitor the situation. Thank you for your loyalty and support while these restrictions remain in place.

We will be gradually rolling out remotely-assessed Performance Grades internationally and will share exam dates and booking periods soon.

The booking period for online Music Theory exams at Grades 1 to 5 is now open. The closing date is Monday 12 October. For information about Grades 6 to 8, see our dates and fees page. To book exams you will need to register and create an account with our new online booking service.

Exams at all venues – what’s changing

New candidate details when you book

When you book exams using our new booking service, we will ask for some new candidate information in addition to the usual name, subject/instrument, grade and any access requirements.

Candidate date of birth

  • When you book an exam for a candidate you will need to provide their date of birth. You will not be able to complete your booking without this information as we need it to identify candidates in our system.

Candidate (parent/carer) email address

  • Providing an email address for the candidate is optional for Music Theory and practical exams.  However, it will be compulsory for the new Performance Grades.
  • Providing a candidate's email address will allow them to set up an account. With an account they can go online to view exam information, change practical exam appointments at Public Venues and Performance Grade exam submission dates, and access their results and practical and Performance Grade mark forms seven days after we release them to the applicant.

Contact ID – provided by us

  • We will provide all candidates with a unique Contact ID, once a booking has been made for them using the new exam booking service. The Contact ID will appear on all future exam information relating to that candidate. It is important that you keep a note of this for future bookings.
  • You do not need to provide a candidate’s Contact ID for their first exam booking using the new online service. For all following bookings you should enter a candidate’s Contact ID every time you book an exam for them.
  • Using a candidate’s Contact ID every time you book means that we will be able to link all their exam bookings together and create an accurate exam history for them. It will also make it quicker and easier for you to book their exams in the future, as the Contact ID will automatically bring up all the candidate details for you.

New candidate account option

Candidates (parents/carers), who are not the exam applicant, have the option to set up their own ABRSM account in the candidate’s name. With an account they can go online to:

  • Check exam appointments and venue information.
  • Change practical appointments at Public Venues and change Performance Grade exam submission dates.
  • View results, including their digital mark form for practical and Performance Grades, seven days after we release them to the exam applicant.
